Enter the Disney Vortex with real-life sisters Amanda and Amber! They face obstacles like trying to live up to (predominantly white) Disney Channel pop princesses, going to school with blonde girls to match, and navigating what it means to fangirl while being Black. Amanda and Amber must level up to finally break out of the ethereal realm known as Disney Vortex, and ultimately reconcile THEIR culture with the POP culture that shaped them! An autobiographical music revue including sketch, drag, improv, and more!
With Amanda Layne Miller and Amber Miller
Originally from Memphis, Tennessee, Amanda Layne Miller is a queer comedy filmmaker with a focus on the surreal. Her love for all things magically comedic began with works of art such as Barbie: Fairytopia and That’s So Raven. Watching the Disney Channel girls flourish made her want to become a multi-hyphenate from a very young age; while “triple threat” used to mean singer-dancer-actress, she’s happy to pivot to writer-director-whatever she feels like. Amanda has been Staff Writer in a development room for Chinese sci-fi series DREAM HUNTERS in both Los Angeles and Beijing, Writers’ Assistant on Hulu’s WOKE S2, on a Netflix sci-fi series for WATCHMEN and BLADE scribe Stacy Osei-Kuffour, and on Apple TV+’s THE MORNING SHOW S3.
Born and raised in Memphis, Tennessee, Amber Leigh Miller is an LA-based content creator and performer. Growing up, she was always the kid with the extensive pop culture intel: from knowing the choreography, lyrics – even the riffs – of Disney Channel musicals to honing the research skills of a One Direction stan. Now she pursues projects that would excite her younger self. Amber Miller has been an on-carpet correspondent at events such as MTV’S VIDEO MUSIC AWARDS, Nickelodeon’s KIDS CHOICE AWARDS, and JOJO SIWA: MY WORLD, and is currently working as a Special Events Coordinator at Jimmy Kimmel Live!
Together, Amanda & Amber wrote, directed, and co-starred in their short comedy film THE DAY I DIDN’T MEET ONE DIRECTION, which premiered at The Lyric Hyperion in Los Angeles. She and Amber host a new variety show FANGIRL CENTRAL starting 11/22 at the Elysian.
