The Elysian’s flagship show and its very first comedy show. Produced by SNL writer Matthew Goldin, this is a variety show that focuses on the lighter side of life, though dark humor (gallows humor) does make its sinister presence felt at times. Eschewing the trappings of the comedy genre, Matthew's Goldin Hour recognizes that comedy, unlike other genres, is about the pursuit of a specific affect: mirth. Standup, improv, sketch — to work in any of these ossified forms is merely to reproduce their tropes and traditions. The goal of Matthew's Goldin Hour is to produce laughter, unlike other shows. And to actually be funny. Which audiences don’t seem to mind!
